Being Healthy on a Budget and Time Limit!!!

Everyone knows that when your in college it's hard to stay healthy and exercise regularly, with pop quizzes every week and a budget that can only afford the dollar menu that is mostly filled with unhealthy food choices a healthy habit during your college years is hard as getting a A in a difficult class. However, here are some tips Social Butterfly would like to share with you....

1. Getting enough sleep.....it is important to balance schedules, college students are known for putting sleep low on their list of priorities. However, without sleep it is difficult to concentrate in most of your classes, therefore, try and get 7 to 8 hours of sleep or take regular naps into your schedule.

2. Eat breakfast.....which means you should not skip breakfast because it causes weight gain and also make it hard to stay focus during class hours. However, you can eat a small portion for breakfast such as a bowl of cereal and a cup of yogurt with your favorite fruit which is a great choice.

EATING TIPS:

Breakfast.....sit down and enjoy a morning meal such as a bagel or English muffin topped with low-fat cream cheese or cottage cheese, a piece of fruit and 100% fruit juice.

Lunch....choose wisely when it comes to lunch. College students love pizza its quick to eat and affordable, however, choose a pizza with half the cheese and add a veggie to your topping. You can also try a regular size roast beef sandwich with light mayo or no mayo and low fat cheese, a green salad with reduced calorie dressing. Limit on your intake of high fat fried food such as french fries, fried chicken or fish sandwiches and be careful of fatty salad dressing such as mayonnaise based dressing & bacon bits.

Snacking.....keep in hand healthful snacks especially during the day and late night studying, stay away from the vending machine. Try a fresh or dried fruit, baked pretzels, un-buttered popcorn, whole wheat cracker and rice cakes.

3. Eat sensibly.....students gain weight mostly when eating late at night and overeating on junk food. Which means you should set a specific time between the hours of 5pm to 8pm to eat dinner and for late night snacking try a healthy choice like fruits or water to give you a full feeling.

4. Drinking Intake......if you drink alcohol, remember that alcohol is high in calories. Try a light beer, a glass of wine, or a ounce of liquor which contains 100 calories. But please remember that there are serious health problems related to drinking alcohol so please be careful when in taking alcohol. Also, remember to drink lots of water which your body needs at least 8 glasses per day. Try to stay away from high sugary drinks like sodas and juices, but remember to carry a water bottle along to class and keep it close during study sessions.

EXERCISE

1....Try to exercise 2 to 3 times weekly with a lot of Cardio workout which includes working out on the treadmill, stationary bikes, and the StairMaster for time period of 25 minutes (try to work out in a perfect time that is comfortable for you when working out during the first couple of days).

2......If you can not fit in time to workout at the campus rec center, here is a great tip instead of driving to class leave home or your dorm in a perfect time and walk to your class which is a great exercise routine.

Remember, being healthy is important and nourishing our bodies whether by eating healthy, resting, or exercising can help you feel better, cope with stress and perform better in class. ENJOY!!!!
